Purchasing Manager

Position Summary

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for leading and managing the procurement operations of Thanasarn Steel, ensuring efficient sourcing and purchasing of steel and construction materials. The role requires strong vendor management, market analysis, and negotiation skills to secure competitive pricing, high quality, and reliable supply. The Purchasing Manager will also collaborate closely with the sales and logistics teams to support customer demands and ensure smooth operations.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement & Sourcing

  • Develop, implement, and oversee purchasing strategies for steel and construction materials.
  • Identify and qualify new suppliers, both domestic and international, to ensure competitive pricing and supply stability.
  • Negotiate contracts, terms, and agreements with suppliers to optimize cost, quality, and delivery timelines.
  • Monitor and forecast material demand based on sales projections and market trends.

Supplier & Market Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, mills, and distributors.
  • Conduct market analysis to track steel and construction material price trends and ensure the company remains competitive.
  • Evaluate supplier performance on quality, cost, lead times, and reliability.
  • Mitigate supply chain risks by developing alternative sourcing strategies.

Operations & Compliance

  • Ensure purchasing activities comply with company policies, financial guidelines, and regulatory standards.
  • Work closely with warehouse, sales, and logistics teams to align inventory levels with business needs.
  • Implement purchasing systems and processes to improve efficiency and cost control.
  • Prepare regular reports on purchasing activities, cost savings, supplier performance, and market outlook.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, coach, and develop the procurement team.
  • Set department goals and KPIs aligned with company objectives.
  • Drive continuous improvement in procurement and supply chain processes.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 5–8 years of procurement experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
  • Background in steel, construction materials, or related heavy industry is highly preferred.
  • Experience in supplier negotiation and contract management.
  • Knowledge of import/export processes, incoterms, and logistics is a plus.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong negotiation and analytical skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of procurement best practices and supply chain management.
  • Ability to analyze market trends and forecast material needs.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Odoo, Oracle).
  • Good communication skills in Thai and English (Mandarin is a plus).

  • Cost savings achieved through procurement strategies.
  • Supplier performance score (quality, delivery, cost, compliance).
  • Inventory turnover rate and stock availability.
